Carnival Cruise Line Replaces Ports on Multiple Itineraries

Carnival Cruise Line has announced that it will reduce the number of ports that it services on its ships following a review of its business strategy.

If you’re a  Carnival Cruise Line  cruiser who has signed up for one of the line’s plans to be transferred to a different ship, you might want to check in with your insurance agent before signing a new contract. Carnival has announced that it is  replacing the Ports of call  for the following itineraries:

The Carnival Breeze is a small-type cruise ship with an overall capacity of around 1,000 guests. On the morning of April 4, 2015, the Carnival Breeze left the Port of Galveston, Texas, bound for Cozumel, Mexico. The ship then proceeded to call at Belize and Costa Maya, in Belize, before returning to the Port of Galveston. At 10:30 p.m. CST on April 5, 2015, the Carnival Breeze pulled into the Port of Galveston, and the ship was scheduled to leave at 10:00 a.m. CST on April 6, 2015.

Even though Carnival cruise ships are resuming service, the situation is still fluid, and various ports may have different limitations. As a consequence, the cruise company sent an update to passengers, notifying them that the ports of Grand Cayman and Key West will be switched out on numerous sailings.

Changes to the Carnival Itinerary

The Carnival Vista, Carnival Dream, Carnival Horizon, Carnival Sunrise, Carnival Glory, and even the new Mardi Gras have all received a significant itinerary modification from Carnival Cruise Line.

The port of Grand Cayman has been deleted from four Carnival Vista seven-day sailings departing on September 4, 18, and October 2, 16, and 30, 2024, due to the port’s closure until early 2024. Out of the ship’s homeport of Galveston, Texas, the vessel will travel to Mahogany Bay, Belize, and Cozumel for those excursions.

Only one sailing on the Carnival Dream is presently affected. The planned call at Key West for the September 25 eight-day departure from the Port of Galveston has been canceled. The ship will dock at Freeport, Bahamas, as well as Half Moon Cay, Carnival’s own island, and Nassau, Bahamas.

Two Carnival Horizon sailings from Miami have been canceled. Visits to Bimini, Half Moon Cay, and Amber Cove are included in the six-day cruises leaving September 12 and 26.

Multiple modifications have been made to the Carnival Sunrise out of Miami, and Key West is no longer on the itinerary. Half Moon Cay, Nassau, and Bimini are among the stops on the five-day September 6 trip. Ocho Rios and Bimini will be included on the five-day trip leaving September 11 and October 9. Half Moon Cay and Nassau will be visited on the four-day cruise, which departs on September 16 and returns on October 28. The five-day cruise departing on September 20 will stop in Ocho Rios and Nassau. The five-day trip will include Nassau, Half Moon Cay, and Bimini and will leave on September 25.

Carnival Glory, based in New Orleans, will sail on seven-day cruises on September 5 and 19, with stops in Bimini, Freeport, and Nassau.

Five voyages on the Mardi Gras, the fleet’s newest ship, located in Port Canaveral, will be changed. San Juan, Amber Cove, and Nassau will be visited on the seven-day cruises on September 11, 25, and October 9 and 23.

What are the Reasons for the Changes?

The Cayman Islands have a plan to progressively reopen to foreign tourism, but cruise ships won’t be able to visit until January 27 at the earliest. If they add Grand Cayman in their itineraries, other cruise companies will have to make adjustments as well.

Another port of call that has been eliminated from certain sailings is Key West. This comes at a time when bigger cruise ships are facing a lot of uncertainty. Despite Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ recent overruling of the cruise ship size restriction, the situation remains uncertain. Originally, Key West decided to cap daily cruise ship visits at 1,500, ban cruise ships with more than 1,300 people from docking, and offer preferential docking to cruise companies with a strong environmental record.

The good news is that with the completion of the pier at Bimini World Resorts, which is owned by Genting, Bimini has quickly become a popular port alternative. This enables cruise ships to stop on the beautiful Bahamas island and visit famous attractions like the Beach Club.

For the time being, the scenario may alter even further when the Carnival cruise line resumes operations from the United States. More ships are expected to resume service in October, and the fleet should be completely operational by the end of the year.
